Large (extremely large) chunks of falling ice, the size of a man who plays professional football, are falling from a great height. Small heaters keep the pipes from seizing. Art studios continue to be rented by painters and fashion people. Members appear from nowhere, wandering in off the frozen streets. An indoor lawn appears as if by magic, followed by a dart board. A second warehouse is acquired for large weird things.
Yes, DO NOT START is starting to bloom, efficiently preparing for the Spring that is to come. Why wait? You can spring anytime. I sprang out of bed just moments before writing this, for example. I intend to spring a small leak later this afternoon as well. In between several people will spring into action, sweeping and cleaning The Baby (tentative title for Warehouse #2).
Meagan has begun UNTITLED THEATRE CLUB for disaffected theatre people to make avant garde productions free from the tyranny of commerce. UNTITLED BOOK CLUB continues to grow into some sort of free-form detective game and discussion group. Hammerspace Gallery is bringing fancy art to the ballroom in March. Dani bought us a dartboard. MEATCRAFT is keeping the spirit of the French salon alive and parsing modern Newspeak. Bobby is going to teach an improvisation masterclass in April. James is making the library database searchable. Rouge Magazine had a photoshoot here. Official non-profit status is achieved and the board has convened to get things off the ground. Even the gym is getting used now.
Of course, not everything is Springing. We have sadly decided not to continue The Wall on The Wall’s Wednesday movie nights until actual Spring due to poor attendance and my desire to sleep at a reasonable hour. We are going to do a monthly, more purposeful movie event once we get through Valentine’s Day’s HOT FROSTY gathering. Meagan cannot find enough Roombas to make her Roomba Army. Actual day job work must be done to fund the space. Etc.
Still, we persevere. Like these guys, who have no idea what month it is:
